Together, with participating businesses, we have removed thousands of tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere and provided carbon-neutral shipping on more than ten million orders.
Here's how it works:
For every order we receive, a formula is used to calculate the estimated shipping emissions. Based on those estimates, a portion of our revenue goes to carbon removal companies that have been vetted by scientists from Carbon Direct.
Those companies use that money to remove however much carbon our shipments created. Any extra funds go toward the further development of carbon removal technologies.
Let's meet a few of the companies removing our shipping emissions:
Heirloom's direct air capture technology enhances the carbon mineralization process. Heirloom's technology speeds up the rate at which naturally occurring minerals capture CO₂ rather than using energy-intensive fans to draw air in.
Rocks are some of the planet's most vital carbon sinks. Over geological timescales, CO2 from the atmosphere binds to minerals and permanently turns to rock – a process known as carbon mineralization. Limestone is one of the most abundant rocks on the planet, capturing massive amounts of CO2 from the air over years.
Heirloom’s technology accelerates this natural process to just days.
They’ve combined the best of engineering and nature, to develop the most affordable and scalable Direct Air Capture technology in the world. They offer the highest quality carbon removal credits available for purchase today.
Climeworks direct air capture (DAC) technology is one of the key technological solutions to fight climate change. It captures CO₂ directly from the air, reducing the atmospheric concentration of CO₂ by only using renewable energy, energy-from-waste, or other waste heat as energy sources.
Many companies face ambitious climate targets. They need to reduce their own emissions and remove CO2 from the atmosphere by purchasing high-quality carbon credits.
Meanwhile, American ranchers occupy hundreds of millions of acres of grazing lands that can draw carbon down and store it in soil for thousands of years.
Grassroots Carbon partners with ranchers across the United States to help them get rewarded for storing carbon by matching them with corporate carbon credit buyers.
They arrange rigorous soil sampling and measurement to assess carbon storage on their land, provide education on the best land management practices for carbon storage, verify and certify the carbon credits according to the Regenerative Standard, and find buyers for the credits.
